Epiphone EJ-200 Acoustic Guitar – Strap Button Repair & Restring
Job Type: Strap Button Repair & Restring
Guitar Model: Epiphone EJ-200 (Jumbo Acoustic)
Client Work
This week, a client brought in their Epiphone EJ-200, a beautiful jumbo-bodied acoustic known for its bold tone and vintage aesthetics. The guitar needed two essential services: a strap button repair and a full restring. Simple fixes—but crucial for both function and playability.
🛠 Strap Button Repair
The strap button at the base of the guitar was loose and beginning to pull out due to worn wood inside the mounting hole. This is a common issue on acoustics, especially ones that get regular gigging use.
Here’s how I addressed it:
Removed the strap button and inspected the damage.
Filled the worn hole using hardwood dowel and wood glue for a solid anchor.
Let the glue cure fully before re-drilling a new pilot hole.
Reinstalled the strap button securely—tight, flush, and ready for the stage.
Result: The strap button is now rock-solid and should last for many more years of use.
🎸 Restring & Setup Check
Next, I gave the EJ-200 a fresh set of phosphor bronze acoustic strings—a great match for the jumbo body and its naturally boomy low-end. While restringing, I took the opportunity to inspect the nut, saddle, and action.
Quick maintenance steps included:
Cleaned and conditioned the fretboard.
Checked intonation and overall playability.
Verified proper neck relief and bridge saddle height.
No additional adjustments were needed—the action was already comfortable, and the neck was nice and straight.
