The Yamaha F310 is one of those guitars that turns up everywhere—and for good reason. It’s affordable, reliable, and sounds great for its class. That said, many F310s leave the factory (or survive years of playing) with action that’s higher than it needs to be. This one came in for a string height adjustment and full string change to improve comfort and playability.
That said, many F310s leave the factory (or survive years of playing) with action that’s higher than it needs to be. This one came in for a string height adjustment and full string change to improve comfort and playability.
The Issue: High Action & Tired Strings
Over time, acoustic guitars can develop higher string action due to natural neck movement, saddle height being left intentionally high from new, or old, worn strings losing brightness and tuning stability.
On this Yamaha F310, the action was playable but harder work than it needed to be—especially in the first few frets. The strings themselves were past their best, sounding dull and feeling stiff.
The Work Done
String Removal & Inspection
The old strings were removed and the guitar was checked over—neck relief, saddle height, nut slots, and general condition. The F310 was structurally sound and a great candidate for a straightforward setup.
String Height Adjustment
The saddle was carefully adjusted to reduce string height while maintaining proper break angle. Neck relief was checked to ensure the action change wouldn’t introduce buzzing. Measurements were taken before and after to keep everything balanced and comfortable.
New String Set Installed
A fresh set of acoustic strings was fitted, stretched in, and tuned to pitch. New strings instantly brought the guitar back to life—brighter tone, better sustain, and more reliable tuning.
The Result
After the setup, the guitar is easier to play, especially for chords and longer sessions. String tension feels more balanced, tone is clearer and more responsive, and overall playability is massively improved.
This is a great example of how even a budget acoustic like the Yamaha F310 can feel completely transformed with a proper setup.
Does Your Acoustic Need a Setup?
If your guitar feels hard to play, sounds dull, or just hasn’t been looked at in a while, a string change and action adjustment can make a huge difference. You don’t need a new guitar—sometimes you just need the one you have set up properly.
